Who Runs Hip Hop in Pittsburgh ?

We do for now! Pittsburgh Hip Hop is run by us the people that make up the culture of Pittsburgh Hip Hop. At least for now. So I challenge all of you people who make up the culture to do something to uplift Hip Hop in Pittsburgh. How can we do that? Well let me tell you. You can start a social community like this one or the one that Paradise made PghHipHop.com. You can start an organization like Dj Goodnight did the Pittsburgh Hip Hop Coalition which works for the betterment of Pittsburgh Hip Hop. We created the coalition bcz we didn't feel our radio station supported Pittsburgh Hip Hop. At the time we planned a protest but that was resolved when American Urban Radio Network's Jerry Lopes spoke to WAMO and let them know what we had planned and how it could affect the station. Well as we now know they did very little to support local Hip Hop...It started with battle of the beats and eventually moved on to Local Love! Which was cool for a while, all they gave us was a half hour for J-Kruz to play local music. See its Karma! The didn't support us and we didn't support them so now they are gone. I am going to give all you out there the Blueprint (not Jay-z's or Krs-ones Music) The actual blueprint on how to support Pittsburgh Hip Hop. 1st step your on-line presence up, Its not just myspace, facebook anymore, It's SoundClik, Reverbnation,Ning, Showcase, etc. there are a thousand on-line sites dedicated to promoting local music. 2nd Make some music that can get played on the radio and that you can perform in the community. Your entire C.D. doesn't have to be edited, but make a song that your kids could listen to or that you wouldn't mind playing for your grandma. 3rd and one of the most important is start your own radio show. I did With Help of dj goodnight my shows airs Wednesdays @ 11p-12:30a. 4th step your video game up if you have a song make a video for it and post on youtube. 5th and finally is promote yourself spend the money (not that expensive) get some flyers and start circulating them around the city if you don't know where to get flyers see me (  Facebook search Kalvin swaggaholic byrd) I got you. Hip Hop Academy

The Hip Hop Academy of Pittsburgh is an initiative presented by Community Empowerment Association, which will teach youth ages 10 to 18 all facets of hip hop; including Writing, Recording, Performance, Production, Engineering, Marketing & Management. Like with all CEA programs and initiatives, education is paramount. Directed By Dj Goodnight,James Moore and others, The scholastic excellence of our student will be of chief concern. Youth will learn not only the history of hip hop but the history of music. In and outs of the music business will be thought and told by music professionals with experience and knowledge in the industry.
This program will provide a therapeutic avenue for all that may need music therapy or a release from stressors.
Most importantly the Hip Hop Academy will also serve as a safe haven in the community for all youth.
